Oracle Client 19c installation issue due to Hyphenated Linux Username Issue in CommonSetup.pm?

Hi everyone,

We are attempting to install Oracle Database Client 19c on RHEL 9.8 using a Linux application account with hyphens in the username (abc-cs-dmo).

We understand this is a known Oracle issue related to username parsing in the following Perl script:

$ORACLE_HOME/bin/CommonSetup.pm

The original code contains the following regular expression:

if ($db_user =~ /.*?\((\w+)\).*/)

The \w+ expression does not recognize hyphens, potentially causing Oracle to incorrectly identify the Linux username.

We have identified and tested the following one-line workaround:

if ($db_user =~ /.*?\(([\w-]+)\).*/)

This successfully recognizes our hyphenated username. However, we would prefer not to modify Oracle-delivered scripts directly.

Howdy, Stranger!
