Disabling Task Email Notifications

Is it possible to turn off the default task email notifications? Every single time the assignee edits the task they get an email saying the task has been assigned to them. I am looking to disable these emails and send emails through suitescripts. I have looked everywhere and do not see a way to turn off the default emails. Is it possible to turn them off?
