consolidated payments for multi-subsidiary customers?

I'm trying to determine if there is a workaround or a modification anyone has done that allows for multi-subsidiary customers to enter consolidated payments to pay invoices in multiple subsidiaries? I believe the official answer is that that is an enhancement request (482573). Our client can't wait an unknown amount of time for that to become a GA feature.
