Lot numbered inventory conversion to standard inventory items

Hi we have enabled lot number tracking for a large number of our items. we no longer need to keep a record of the lot numbers. Is there anyway to convert them to standard inventory items or do we need to recreate them? If we recreate them can we disable the old products and reuse the same SKU/Name/Description?
