How to create a button to print the pdf document associated with the transaction via Suitelet?

We have transactions showing in a Suitelet which we provide to customers.

We want to give them a button to print the pdf document associated with the transaction. This could be a sales order, invoice, credit memo, payment etc.

  1. How do we identify the document type and layout of each type of document shown on the screen?
  2. What api is used to generate the pdf? These users are completely outside of NetSuite - we can't use the 'print' link on the document out of the box? So we need elevated permissions.
