How to compare two text values using Formula (Text) Criteria?

I have a saved search where I am trying to filter using a field in the item record and a field in a custom record. The formula I am using is this:-

If I use the saved search without the filters and put {customitem316} and {customitem316.name) in the results I get the same text. The formula above does not correctly identify these as the same and so I am getting no results found.


What am I doing wrong it must be something basic?
