How to create a Saved Search for the average number of items per Sales Order?

Hi Guru's,

I am trying to create a saved search that shows the number of unique inventory items sold per sales order. I have tried different things like Line ID, but it includes the tax, shipping charges etc. The quantity of each item doesn't matter, just the unique inventory items.

I am trying to make this a search that would average by employee per month and then compare the current month vs the previous month.

Does anyone know how this can be done? Any help would be appreciated.
