How to use alternate part numbers in a Bill of Material?

We have a situation where we find that we need to use different part number for the same part in a bill of material. This way if one part number is not available we have the ability to use a different part number with out having to create a deviation for our FDA / UL approved products. When the work order is created we would have the ability to use the primary part number and if not available then the back up.

Any suggestions?
