Location of lot and bin discrepancies

We have an item that is lot controlled and bin controlled. The on hand quantity does not match the bin quantities. What is the best way to track down where that discrepancy may lie? I know I have lot quantities that are not in bins, but how do I find that amount by lot to do the correction, and how best to correct the difference? By bin quantities appear to be understated.
