What are the Based On fields on Mass Update for Item Pricing?

I'm looking to use this functionality but the Options to use, the field help is less than helpful. It does not clearly point to which exact fields it uses to base the update. Does anyone have any better documentation on what specifically is used in each case?

This is the standard help, but without doing a ton of testing, can anyone provide more details on what exact fields are used when each of these are selected?

For Example, Average Cost, is that the cost at the Location level or the cost at the over all item level? It could be two very different costs?
