Backordered items prevent order from being picked

Anyone faced this issue before or any insight on this?
where orders with items that have backorders are now unavailable to the picker. 1 line item had item backordered, netsuite would prompt the user the following:
When they select Yes to continue, they receive the following error:
The only work around I found to this would be to mark the “backordered” item as closed, which is something we never had to do before. any other way can we resolve this?
