Permissions to edit custom record not working

We have 3 records that I am trying to give permissions to a user role to access them to add/edit/delete items from.

Manufacturers
Models
Sub Model Dependency

I have gone into the role, permissions, custom record, and given full control to these fields. The Sub Model Dependency is the only one behaving as expected. The role can add/edit/delete these items.

Manufacturers and Models however are allowing view access only. When trying to add/edit this list, I am getting the permissions violation message that I need higher permissions for the custom record type Manufacturers to access this page.
