Scenario:
A user creates a Sales Order under Location 1, but the related Special Work Order (WO) is created and built at Location 2. Because the Work Order and the Sales Order are associated with different locations, the system does not allow fulfillment of the Sales Order.
Despite the link between the Sales Order and the Work Order, inventory must exist at the Sales Order’s location to proceed with fulfillment. Allow the creation and build of a Work Order at a different location, transfer the resulting inventory to the Sales Order’s location, and fulfill the order there without system restriction.
Solution:
You can work around this limitation by updating the Fulfill Based on Commitment setting to Allow Uncommitted. This allows you to fulfill the Sales Order even if the items were not originally committed from the Sales Order location.
Steps:
- Enable Uncommitted Fulfillment:
- Navigate to Setup > Accounting > Accounting Preferences > Order Management.
- Set Fulfill Based on Commitment to Allow Uncommitted.
- Click Save.
- Process Workflow:
- Create and approve the Sales Order under Location 1.
- Create the Work Order under Location 2.
- Perform the Assembly Build at Location 2.
- Transfer the built inventory from Location 2 to Location 1:
- Go to Transactions > Inventory > Transfer Inventory and complete the transfer.
- Once the inventory is available at Location 1, you can fulfill the Sales Order from that location.
Notes:
- Allow Uncommitted enables fulfillment of items not committed or quantities above the committed amount.
- This setting may allow over-fulfillment and may result in negative inventory balances if not carefully managed.
- Default behavior in NetSuite restricts fulfillment to only committed quantities.
- To avoid fulfillment errors, ensure that the correct quantities are built and transferred according to the Sales Order.
