Sales Order NOT fulfilled is being recognized as revenue

I have a sales order that needs to be "fulfilled" before revenue can be recognized. The Sales Order says "pending fulfillment" but the income is being posted. I do not understand why it is doing that. I was told (I am new to NS) that the revenue would not post until the item has been fulfilled.
