What happens when a sales order with committed stock is closed?

Hi there.

I've tried searching around for an answer but can't seem to find anything on this topic.

I'm wondering what happens when you close a sales order that has inventory committed to it. Does the committed inventory get recommitted to other sales orders? Or does it un-commit and is now available inventory again?
