Is it possible to convert Serialized Items to "Service" or Non-Inventory Items?

We are planning to have a subscription model for our serialized items , but i read some articles that subscription plans are created only for "Non-Inventory " and "Service" items . Is there a way i can convert serialized items to " service" or non-inventory items . Please advice
