What is the relation between Advanced manufacturing Finite production planning and MRP?

Hi,

I have been searching for documentation explaining the link between Finite production planning  and Supply Planning, but do not seem to find any.

In supply planning when demand is created, lets say by entering a Sales Order for an Assembly that is out of stock, the supply planning engine will generate a planned order with transaction type 'Work Order' to create the assembly. At the same time planned supply orders will be created to assure components will be available at the location where the assembly will be made.

What's unclear to me is what happens when you combine Advanced manufacturing Finite production planning with Supply planning? I see 2 possibilities:
