How to revalue item cost without affecting quantity, losing SO/PO connections?

Hi Gurus,

I have a customer asked: how to revalue item cost without affecting quantity, losing SO/PO connections.

I know we can do this via inventory adjustment. But we lose the connections with other transactions after the inventory adjustment. For example, we have lot-numbered electronic components near expiration date. Can we adjust the cost downwards? I want to track the related transactions at the same time for the lot-numbered item.
