How to deal with Demand Planning - using alternate item to phase in/out product?

edited Jun 2, 2025 2:38PM in Ask A Guru 2 comments

The following scenario exists:

Part A - existing inventory item with low stock setup as reorder point supply method

Part B is a revision of Part A and supersedes it, currently has zero stock and replenishment method is setup as Material Requirements Planning so appears in Supply planning Repository.

Part B also has Part A setup as the Alternate Source Item so Demand Planning can use the sales history as moving average calculation for Supply Planning.

Question: is there a way that as Part A stock reduces then Supply Planning highlights a requirement for a planned purchase order for Part B, but not until the stock is required based on lead-time etc.

Howdy, Stranger!
