Firmed checkbox on Transaction records?

Hello,

I am wondering about the Firmed checkbox that I noticed on Transaction records (such as Purchase Orders, Work Orders, etc).

It appears to be a Netsuite default field and it appears to auto check in some instances but not others.. Is anyone able to advise what the field is intended to be for, why the auto populating rules are and any further details to educate me?

*We did just turn on Demand Planning Module, however I am unsure if the field existed before we enabled the features.
