Workflow - Customer Shipping Method

Hi all,

On the Customer record under the Preferences tab you can designate a default Shipping Method (field ID: shippingitem).

I would like to create a workflow so that when a Sales Order is created, if the customer record has a Shipping Method set, it overrides the Shipping Method on the Sales Order. If the customer record does not have one set, the Sales Order should keep whatever Shipping Method is already populated.

Is this possible to do with a workflow?

If so, would this need to run on Sales Order before record submit or after field sourcing?
