Ability to generate invoices at Customer or Project level

We are a services business using charge-based billing for both fixed price and time & materials projects. The majority of our customers are invoiced monthly with one invoice per project. There are others which which require multiple projects on an invoice, or even a single invoice for the whole customer.

Is there a way to configure the system so we have both options?
