Is there a point to incremental upgrades to get to BIAPPS 12c?

The Oracle documentation (see below) says there are two methods of upgrading to OBIA 11.1.1.10.3 (aka OBIA 12c) given that the recommended route is to recreate all ODI customisations anyway, is Method 2 really just saying do a fresh install and then recreate all your ODI mappings and migrate your OBIEE content from 11g to a new install of 12c ?
You can use either of the following methods to upgrade from Oracle Business Intelligence Applications release 11.1.1.10.1 and prior releases to release 11.1.1.10.3:
- Method 1:
- Upgrade your existing Oracle Business Intelligence Applications installation in sequential order by release number, as described in the upgrade document. For example, if you're running Oracle Business Intelligence Applications release 11.1.1.7.1, then upgrade to release 11.1.1.8.1, then release 11.1.1.9.2, then release 11.1.1.10.1, and then release 11.1.1.10.2.
- Register the source application in Oracle Business Intelligence Applications release 11.1.1.10.3 with the same DSN.
- Run the domain load plan.
- Export the setup data of Oracle Business Intelligence Applications Configuration Manager from the upgraded Oracle Business Intelligence Applications release 11.1.1.10.2.
- Import the setup data and verify that the customizations are in place.
- Method 2:
- Set up Oracle Business Intelligence Applications Configuration Manager as a fresh installation.
