Upload BIP .catalog object via Web Services
Organization Name
The Hackett Group
Description
We need to enhance the CatalogService to allow the upload of .catalog objects. Currently, the Web Service supports the creation of objects (.xdm, .xdo, xsb, .xss), which need to be encoded in base64 before uploading to the BI catalog. However, enabling the upload of the .catalog objects that result from archiving a BI Publisher catalog object is extremely important to enable auto-deployments for reporting objects (without having to "downloadObject() Method").
Please consider this idea.
Use Case and Business Need
In a world of DevOps and CI/CD; having a feature that would enable development/SI's to deploy .catalog objects would benefit all.

It would be great , if CatalogService is further enhanced to allow the upload of .catalog objects, .xdrz objects, .xdoz Objects and .xdmz Objects. Last three objects are downloaded as part of Download/Upload Feature of XMLPSERVER

This would be most beneficial for automated migration. Minimize the manual steps needed when promoting code to higher environments.

Implementing this would be a great step towards improving release quality and efficiency.

If this idea is realized, manual operations would be minimized, objects are programmatically migrated between some environment just like CI/CD

Automated deployment. Saves a lot of time.

As a firm my organization is strictly against manual steps for migrating solutions between environments. Unfortunately, BI Publisher which is a significant component of our Oracle Financials Cloud deployment relies on deployment processes that are antiquated. Please prioritize and address this.

We faced the same issue during our deployment. We have been users of FlexDeploy for many years to manage dev ops with our on-premise OBIEE implementation. We found that they also have a plugin for OTBI webcatalog objects, not just BIP. It has integration with source control and change management systems. I would recommend you check it out. They are a great company to work with.
