OBI and OTBI more subject area data joining options such as left join

Description

Hi All,

Currently if we are building reports in OBI or OTBI, when we try to join subject areas together you only have 4 options which are:

  • Union
  • Union All
  • Intersect
  • Minus

The missing joins are one's like left joins and right joins which I think would be very powerful.

Use Case and Business Need

The reason why I think we need this is because it will allow us to use one of the subject area as the main data set then pull through additional data from a different subject area where needed. If we say for example only use performance document subject area, only staff with performance documents would show in the report. This as a result doesn't give us a full view of all active staff and who hasn't ben assigned to a performance document.

If we have the left join option then we can have worker assignment real time as the main source, then join it with the performance subject area and for anyone without a performance document they could still be shown in the report and allow us to identify all those without a performance document in one report without further work needed from extracting two reports.

There's many other items that would benefit including if we need to know a high level percentage of the number of staff in the system who has been on sick leave for example, then we need the system to pull out all the other staff who hasn't been on sick to do the calculation. Without the ability to join the data set, all those who hasn't been on sick won't be pulled out.

This would be very useful to set a master data set such as all active staff, then use the fields from other SA's to show if they have been assigned etc and this would give us a full view of all staff for where they are.

I can go into more detail if the above isn't clear.

Thanks everyone.

    This would be very helpful

I support this need for various reporting purposes that currently require direct SQL queries in the advanced tab.
We track induction assignments for new hires this way, and training compliance reporting for recurrent training.

Being able to do this whilst maintaining the drag and drop OTBI flexibility would hugely facilitate collaboration on these reports.
