Ability to Add and Save Notes to an OTBI Report

Description
Ability to add and save notes to an OTBI report, similar to a write-back feature, where you do not have to configure/update a DFF through the UI and are not restricted to the 150 character limitation that DFFs have.
Use Case and Business Need
We have several reports that get generated and sent to external sponsors, clients, partners, etc. where we need to include additional notes or information that are not and do not need to be captured within the UI. These notes are meant to be incrementally added and not necessarily overridden as new information/updates come to light.
Example of Desired Functionality:
- A report is generated by an end user that contains a free form text field that can be populated by that end user and then saves the report. Once the report is saved with the additional note, the note is sent to the desired audience.
- A week later, the end user runs the report again where the note added previously is still visible. The user adds a new note and saves to the report where now both notes are displayed, and the updated report sent to the desired audience.
- An additional week later, the end user runs the same report where both notes added previously are still visible. The user selects the second note and edits the information and saves, and the report displays both notes with the second one reflecting the changes just made. The report is now ready to be sent to the desired audience.
- An additional week later, the end user runs the same report where both previous notes are displayed. The user “inactivates” or “end dates” the first not added, and adds a new third note, and the report displays all three notes. The report is now ready to be sent to the desired audience, but when it is sent, the report only displays the second and third note added, and NOT the first date because it has been “inactivated” or “end dated”.

Hi Erika,
Have you looked into EPM Narrative Reporting or Process Cloud within the Visual Builder PaaS offering? I think one of those two might be the start of what you're looking for - wrapping an approval/editing workflow around a report production process.
Hope that helps,
Glen

Hi Glen,
We have not dived into the details of Narrative Reporting but this has also been mentioned in one of our discussions with Oracle on this topic. While we plan on digging into this application a bit more to see if it will meet other potential business needs, we would rather not have to implement yet another Oracle product to achieve some simple functionality that we used to have in our legacy system.
