Update the Object ID of the connection

Is there a way to rename the Object ID name.

Even though the conenction name represent : "PROD" and all datasets are linked to that, the object ID as part of the intial creation had "UAT" in that. All the objects are showing as UAT in schedule etc, which is causing confusion among the developers and users. Any way to rename the object ID of the connection.

I had a quite long going discussion at the beginning of this year on this topic with @Bret Grinslade - Oracle Analytics-Oracle . It was mainly about all the hassles and pains with deployment/migration of DV objects between environments, which result from the very unfortunate concept of unique Connection and Data Set object IDs (<<Creator User ID>>.<<Original Object Name>>) and also from other objects and the even more unfortunate concept of transferring DV objects between environments using the DVA package (importing the DAV package will "overwrite" the original ID of imported objects from the "source" environment - it will use the ID of the user who performs the import). This discussion resulted in the fact that this concept will be changed (objects will become part of the catalog and their unique identification will be the path in the catalog) - honestly, as a customer, we can't wait for this change to happen. The current state of affairs causes us great problems in managing our OAS environments. So I hope those promises will be soon transformed into reality (to be able to leverage them in OAS 2026 release). Bret @Bret Grinslade - Oracle Analytics-Oracle, can you confirm that ?

As noted by you, renaming a connection does not actually change the name in object id. I don't believe there is any public API or UI to update object id as this is internally used. Sounds like a Idea Lab request candidate but will let PM's confirm @Bret Grinslade - Oracle Analytics-Oracle .

You can change the object ID by opening the object and performing a Save As…* The new object ID will reflect the new name. This will create a new object, leaving the original in existence, too. You can delete the original object afterward.

If you have other objects dependent on the original object (e.g., workbook used original dataset), you have to update those dependent objects to use the new object ID.

*If another object has the new name, you must first rename the other object; but if the other object also has the same object ID, you have to delete it to free up the object ID. Before deleting it, you can first make a copy by using the Duplicate command or performing a Save As…
