JSON format files as dataset source

I have seen that this 5 year old idea is marked as delivered but I don't believe that JSON files can be used as the data source for datasets (The REST API connection connector can be used to source data from a REST API into a dataset). It would be great to have these added to the accepted file formats for data sources.
