Request to Enable Translation Editor for Item Description by Business unit

We’ve explored whether it’s possible to retrieve the item description from the child inventory organization instead of the PPIM master, but it appears that Oracle restricts access to the underlying query or logic—only the report template itself can be customized.
To support multi-language reporting at the inventory org or business unit level, it would be highly beneficial to have a centralized way to manage translations—such as enabling broader access to the Translation Editor. This would allow output documents to automatically pick up the appropriate item description in the language relevant to the business unit or end customer.
Currently, there’s no built-in translation functionality for Catalogs, meaning we have to create multiple catalog copies—one per language—which increases maintenance effort exponentially in global operations.
This feature would be especially valuable for customer-facing documents such as:
- Order confirmations
- Invoices
- Packing slips
Would love to hear from others—are there any workarounds or alternatives you're using today to achieve language-specific item descriptions per business unit?
