OBIEE 12c running on Windows vs. linux x86

Question

Hello,

Are there any real performance, scalability or other reasons one would install OBIEE 12c on Linux vs Wndows? Does anyone have any links to white papers on this?  My only concern is that we are mostly a Windows shop and 1 DBA who knows linux.  We have a shop which uses software on servers that are for the most part windows based. Point being it is easier for someone to jump if the software is Windows based.

Thomas, this is from my personal experience. I found Windows to work fine in an environment supporting about 200 users. I have since then worked on Linux at two other companies and, honestly speaking, I can see where you are coming from and think Windows would work fine. 
Linux is supposed to be more stable and nowadays with tools like WinSCP and Putty which are not too difficult, you should be able to manage. However the Linux servers do need a good sysadmin to install all the packages and maintain the environment.

If I were in your place, I would set up a Linux test environment and keep it up for an extended period of time, whilst keeping the production system in Windows, to compare the two.

As Gianni said, "Just make it right and clean.." i.e  be very careful when installing.

Based on my observations with Windows based setups the main issues can be this:

That's what often gives you issues !

OBIEE being a server tool require a real Windows sysadmin and not just any random guy with a Windows laptop (not saying the couldn't do it, but often that's where issues starts).

On the other hand linux being more "unfamiliar" to random people you often get a sysadmin looking at it.

All in all both are fine, you will not get official papers on "take this because better than that".

Just make it right and clean and about the "easier for someone to jump" ... avoid random jumpers, get a proper admin (windows or linux).
