Data as subject area?
I heard there was a means of using a file as a subject area in 12c, anyone point me in the direction of it please?

Yes, do you know if this also applies to OBIEE delivered through Fusion Financials?

OTBI?
Not had the pleasure recently, but this would seem to say yes; -

Be aware though you will need a Visual Analyzer license to use this option: https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/DocContentDisplay?_afrLoop=165801888133630&id=2093886.1

Thanks for letting me know, I don't suppose you know if this is included in Fusion Financials - my question is OTBI related?

Also, on "visual analyzer license", if we purchased a visual analyzer license would that then also provide the ability to access a cloud based Planning database for reporting through OTBI?

I do not know if VA is included in OTBI. The ability to access the Planning Database depends on what database you are talking about.

A PBCS reporting database.
I had read that you could only access this with visual analyzer, not with OBIEE or OTBI, hence when you said 'visual analyzer license' I wondered if this would also provide the means to report against PBCS?

I do not have much knowledge on the subject of Cloud Services. Just wanted to share that adding data sources is a DV feature and not available through Obiee.
Maybe this document will help you?: https://blogs.perficient.com/oracle/2017/10/13/how-to-connect-oracle-oac-to-planning-budgeting-cloud/

Very, very kind Martin, thank you
Sadly, I am where I was, without OAC and so without Essbase reporting.
Oracle, if you ever listen, this makes zero sense, both PBCS and Fusion are in the cloud, there should be a bridge built to allow OTBI reporting against PBCS!!
Now I will go cry myself to sleep....
