Using ODBC connections to SQL Server 2012.  We are getting Connection destroyed due to timeout. A lot of them.  Every minute. What setting do I need to change to prevent this or is this normal?  See below.

    Hi,

Are you facing any issues with your application? Also what is your OBIEE version and what driver are you using to connect to SQL server?

Yes were are experiencing performance issues.  We are on 12c 12.2.1.1.0.    Sql Server 6.03.9600.17415  SQLSRV32.DLL

Can you elaborate a little bit more about this "performance issue" ? Is it that the reports are running slow, page navigation is slow or are you getting report errors, users getting logged out. etc..

Sometimes a driver bug can cause connection related issues, so an alternative here would be to use the data direct driver included with OBIEE. You can set connection timeout in ODBC configuration, OBIEE RPD and there might be a timeout setting in SQL server. But before making any changes you need to find out what exactly is  causing your performance issues.

Navigation is very slow sometimes, but my biggest concern is the number of records being written to the log file.  This is happening almost every minute.    I have the pool timeout set to 300 sec.

Why should this concern you? As far as I can see from the logs you posted, those are just notifications from the BI server and no errors. I do not think that those are causing your navigation slowness. Navigation could be slow because of various factors like browser issues, resource constraints on the server, too much logging etc.. I suggest you read the below excellent article.

So you believe that these notifications are not an issue?

I have a 12c tuning document but I will read through the 11g one.  Thanks.

I do not see it as an issue for the problem you described. See below for reference
