Hi,

I have installed OBIEE 12c client software (Administration Tool, Catalog Manager, etc.) on my Windows 7 laptop. I want to install OBIEE 11g client software.

Are there any precautions that I need to take so that both the client software will work without any issues?

Hi,

Just install them in 2 different folders

12c has a totally different structure and also names the ODBC driver differently than 11g, so no issues. 12c is even nice enough to make multiple installs (12.2.1.0.0, 12.2.1.1.0, 12.2.1.2.0) next to each other without overriding anything (while 11g was overriding the driver definition and you had to edit the registry to make the multiple versions available).

I shall install the 11g client in a different folder.

However, will the new installation share the existing Start >> All Programs >> Oracle Business Intelligence Client program group? Should I rename the existing 12c program group?

The folder in the Start menu I can't remember if they end up in the same, I would say no (as far as I remember there is a different name).

I personally then change these folders to give them a short and more explicit name with the version clearly visible (and also rename shortcuts to have versions in all the names so I can easily know what I'm opening at any time).

Yes, it looks like all the shortcuts in his "Start menu". As said the naming is set by hand as the installed will use standard names all the time for the shortcuts itself. So you rename them to make it more obvious and quicker.
