How to Export and Import OBIEE Catalog

Hi All,
I have fixed all my existing reports that had various issues both at the RPD level & Reporting level(Analytics)
I understood how to deploy .rpd that i have modified
However m not sure quite, on how to promote my current reports/Catalog(OBIEE Anlytical server) from Dev to QA env.
If you could help me with detailed walkthrough on how to export and import OBIEE reports (All of them) (M calling as CATALOG as reports term, hope m using right term)
Will be great help
Highly appreciated all your inputs

Hi Bhaskar,
What documentation did you refer? It is ok to ask questions in the community when you are stuck or cannot understand something, but things like deploying a catalog/rpd are common tasks performed in OBIEE. And if you haven't already, attend a good training as it will definitely help you in the long run.
There are a few ways by which you can move catalog objects between environments and since you want to copy all of the reports, assuming all objects in the catalog, the best option is to zip the catalog using something like a 7zip in your DEV and unzip it in the QA env. From EM you can point to the new catalog. Restart services.

Hi,
It depends on various factor (security etc.) for the details, but a simple generic overview is: you open the catalog (web or Catalog manager) click "archive", you open the catalog on the target and click "unarchive" selecting the previously archived file.
As it's quite simple I guess there must be something else behind your question?
Did you try and had problems? What is the real issue?

Hi,
I found this link helpful when I was starting out.

Something which hasn't been asked yet in the responses so far: What version are you talking about? Some old 11.1.1.x.yymmdd? 12.2.1.2 the current version?
Archive is one option. This one's either manual with someone pointing and clicking or you can script it.
Physical deployment on file system level another one but that's not recommendable on older versions due to GUI issues.
The BAR approach is a third one.

Hi Sherry thanks for your inputs as well you have been helped me out across other issues with OBIEE
you are right, i just have some basic idea on obiee front not much of expert, my primary role is to DW architect, since the respective resource in not reachable for this env. meanwhile m trying to do what i can to bring and keep this system in working state
i know should have been doing much of research before i leave in this community but running short of time, and i found this community various experts like you gives me hint real quick right to the dot , so i can pick it up from there
once again thanks for everything that you had helped

No problem, happy to help. The advice to take up training was because I was thinking you were a beginner who was starting out in OBIEE, but clearly you are not. Hopefully you have taken it in the right spirit. I see your question got answered. Have a great weekend.

So? Come on that's not something bad and basically you have a more pertinent background than tons of other people who get their hands dirty with OBI!
Good that you let us know so we know that we can assume a lot more existing know-how when things are about modeling right away *thumbsup*
