Hi all ..

Can you help me what I need to do if I need to move all my reports from one env to another . Say from Dev to test.

ver. 11.1.1.7.x

Do I need to move rpd? or Catalog? or both?

Is there anything else also I need to move?

Do I need to remove the existing rpd first from test before moving the dev rpd?

    Hi,

    yes you need to migrate rpd and catalog, presuming there are changes in both.

    On 11.x you can just use the OBIEE environment control to upload the new rpd for use, but it is 'customary' to maintain an archive of previous rpd versions so you can rollback if necessary.

    Thank you , can you help me further in detailing ..

    I've a brand new env , and I need my reports from other env to this brand new env (both are exactly on same ver) .. so In this case I will first move rpd and the catalog? or both at a time?

    Also while I will browse for rpd ,, do I first need to manually copy the rpd location path mentioned in the blog?

    RPD is the pre-requisite for the catalog, but as long as you have both in place before you try to use it then no worries.

    On 11g when you provide a path to your rpd it uploads a copy to the OBIEE server, so no.

    I have rpd and catalog both from old env .. do I need to copy / browse the rpd only or both rpd and catalog?

    here in I am compiling the steps ..

    1) Copy the rpd to local/shared location .

    2)Copy the catalog to "C:\obiee\instances\instance2\bifoundation\OracleBIPresentationServicesComponent\coreapplication_obips1\catalog"  new env from old env.

    3)From EM browse that rpd.

    4)Point the catalog location to 2) location.

    5)Activate/restart etc .

    6) Verify from BI Admin tool.

    Can some one plz comment.

    Yes, that is all you need to do, assuming all passwords remain the same between the two environs...

    While browsing the rpd in new env , it ask for password .. I will give the same password what it was in old env.

    Apart from this do you see see any where else password thing will come up..

    And what about security? Is the security already setup correctly? Because moving RPD and catalog doesn't move the security.

    More in general it's a good idea to get familiar with the main concepts of OBIEE before to have to deal with migrating content between environments etc.
