Hello expert

I am really interested in learning OBIEE and OBIA. Can someone please guide me how to learn these technologies?
Thanks

Step 1 before attempting to learn OBIEE is making sure you understand dimensional modelling.

To many people fail at putting OBIEE to good use because they lack basic modelling knowledge.

You may want to have a look here for that: https://dwbi.org/data-modelling/dimensional-model/1-dimensional-modeling-guide

They're two different things - OBIA is content which is displayed via OBIEE, and populated using ODI (or Informatica for old versions). If you want to "learn OBIA" then you need to ask yourself what do you want to learn? ODI modelling? the subject areas themselves (in which case it helps to have a firm functional understanding of the source system)? The OOTB dashboards?

If it was me, I'd download sampleapp and get myself a book on warehouse modelling and design. Get to grips with that. Then look at the OBIA side of things.

    Thank everyone for responding me.

I have some idea of database designing and dimensional modeling. I have foundation in oracle SQL, PL/SQL.

Now the question is from where I need to begin with. If I install the sample app and VMware, then all OBIEE,ODI,DAC, etc etc are installed? Even if they are installed, is there any study material that will guide me through the sample app and help me to learn OBIA?

    Thanks

No ... OBIA is not included in the sampleApp VM ... I would question what, why, and when for your learning of OBIA.

The Analytical Apps are very involved and require a thorough knowledge of the underlying source systems as well (EBS, PSoft, JDEwards, etc) AND a thorough knowledge of the business domain in questions (HR, FINANCE, PROCUREMENT, ETC).

This takes a long time to learn ... you are best learning on the job with experts who have done it repeatedly (there are gotchas with every version that are not widely know/documented that the insiders know on infrastructure, ELT, RPD, etc).

So I would have you examine what, why, when?  If you have an employer who is going to toss this at you (all alone and no implementation partner) - you are being set up for a large probability of failure.

    Thanks for the information.

My only intention to learn these skills is to add skill sets to my profile.

Then you must get on a project with an implementer ... you can't do it all, so have you thought about what part of it to learn?

Personally, I know how the data is supposed to flow - but I'm not an ODI developer.  I can rework the RPD and visualizations like a master, but I'm even better at the functional lead role.  I have over 55 different industry verticals and have multiple business degrees (finance, accounting, organizational development).

I suggest you start with what part of the whole you want and start with are you 'more' technical or business savvy?  Answer that then further develop your vision of WHAT you want to learn.  Then go and try to get a job in that area - the only real way to learn it is to do it repeatedly.

I'd say it's possible to learn OBIEE using SampleApp, a decent book and some online tutorials. However as with anything, you only really learn it from using it - and that's using it in a real environment - not adding a "% Sales" column to a demo subject area.   But so long as you can grasp basic modelling in the RPD (including setting up hierarchies etc) then you should be ok. Then work up to doing things like initblocks, row level filtering using roles, complex modelling etc.

OBIA is a whole different ball game though - whilst knowing say EBS will give you a headstart, it's not sufficient because of how data is mapped through to BIApps. You need to understand things like the domain mappings (as said above) and how they relate to the data you're seeing. Plus how the data is stored under the covers. For example the Workforce Deployment ETL routine is awfully complex, and the RPD model isn't much better. If you feel you really want to learn it, stick to a subject you're proficient in already such as HR or Financials. You'll never realistically learn the whole product suite.

I am more technical savvy person. Though I would definitely want to be proficient in business area also.

Yes your suggestion is correct. However I would doubt if anyone put me in any project where I do not know anything about tools/technology/domains. So in order to learn the basics of the tools I am planning to learn these thongs. You can say it as first stepping stone.

Since the free VM has the RPD and visuals - learn how to manipulate that stuff (the drawback is that you won't have any of the business domains that pertain to OBIAin there - BUT with an oracle support ID you can get the product guides so you can put together the hands on of using the RPD and visuals with knowledge of what comes out of the box in an app (financials, hr, etc) ... then get a job as a report developer on an Apps project (ootb visuals are either scrapped for custom or highly modified in apps projects).  Do that a while, and pay attention to what you really want to be doing (ELT, etc) and progressively ask for small tasks in that area.
