Hello Experts,

I have created one user bi_admin as below:

It is part of same group as weblogic user:

If I login to analytics using weblogic user , I can see various options like Analysis , Dashboard, Data model etc:

However if I login through bi_admin user (the one I created as learning exercise), I see very limited options:

Similarly for XMLPserver, If I login with weblogic user , I can see options like Data model, Report job etc:

However with bi_admin user those options are not visible, but one additional option called as Action I could see:

I am not sure what is difference between my weblogic user and bi_admin user which is leading to these differences. Kindly help !!

Thanks,

Go through it is one thing. What's important is, that your questions are precise and contain all necessary information.

Thanks Chris!!!, yes I agree that I should start with understanding basics first , in order to be able to ask right query. Hence I edited my OP accordingly. Please bear with me for any lack of experience in asking queries.

    Thanks,

  • Did you compare the application roles of weblogic and bi_admin (checking "My Account" once logged in OBIEE) ?

Are they the same? Are they different?

If you review how the security of OBIEE works, you will see that a Weblogic LDAP group doesn't really mean anything from an OBIEE point of view, one is not necessarily correlated with the other.

    Hi Gianni,

Thanks for your help !!! yes you are correct. Application roles are different for both the users:

Weblogic user is having additional application roles:

    for BI_ADMIN user:

I am not sure how I can add these additional application roles for bi_admin user.

I tried to see such roles at console , but in vain.

    Kindly help !!!

    Thanks,

  • Application roles are in the Enterprise Manager Fusion Middleware Control Console, login there and in the BI instance you can edit application roles.

As said before you have to know how the product is designed: "Console" (the Weblogic Console) is pure weblogic, it doesn't know at all that OBIEE exists.

Thanks Gianni, Now I am able to see all options with bi_admin user as well which were available with weblogic user (after adding the user to application role at EM).

    Hi Jianni,

Just one more question please , related to this.

If SSO option is enabled in security - then also I would be able to login to Analytics and XMLPserver URL using this newly created user bi_admin?

    Thanks,

  • SSO is already enabled (you didn't said what exact version you are on, but I believe it's one of the latest 12c), the lightweight SSO is on by default to allow a to access both DV and Answers.
