So that means it's nothing to do with the actual in-server cache purging functions that drops it.

I suggest reading through the support document: How the Oracle BI Server Query Cache is purged (Doc ID 1137203.1)

Edit: I just realized this is a 10g doc, but maybe still has aspects that are relevant to 11g.

MAc2, OBIEE 11g cache purges automatically because of the following reasons:- 1) Automatically, by setting the Cache Persistence Time field in the Physical Table dialog box for a particular table. 2) Automatically, by setting up an Oracle BI Server event polling table. 3) Automatically, as the cache storage space fills up. 4) Additionally the Cache purging is triggered whenever: 5) A any dynamic repository variable is refreshed, and its value has changed. 6) meta data is changed online. But our cache files are purging sometime around 3 PM EST...i don't know who/What program is purging all the cache files...i don't know where to look at?' Thanks

    In your RPD:

    1) go to Tools -> Utilities

    2) Select 'Oracle BI Event Tables' and press 'Execute'

    3) Are there any objects listed in the 'Event Tables' section?

Do you have any dynamic repository variables?

Do you know with certainty someone is not checking in or saving in the RPD in online mode at around 3:00 PM?

    maC,

Event pool table is not configured.

Yes,I can see dynamic repository variables. We are using OBIA-11.1.1.9.2 RPD Out of the box RPD.

    example:-

Take a read through here ... Managing Performance Tuning and Query Caching - 11g Release 1 (11.1.1)

7.6.3.4 Changes to Dynamic Repository Variables

The values of dynamic repository variables are refreshed by data that is returned from queries. When you define a dynamic repository variable, you create an initialization block or use a preexisting one that contains a SQL query. You also configure a schedule for the Oracle BI Server to follow to execute the query and periodically refresh the value of the variable.

When the value of a dynamic repository variable changes, all cache entries that are associated with a business model that reference the value of that variable are purged automatically. The cache entries are purged when the repository variable refresh rate is reached, if its value has changed.

Note that if a business model is not associated with a changed dynamic repository variable, then no cache purging action occurs. For example, suppose an initialization block has been defined with a repository variable and a refresh rate of 5 minutes. But, no logical column has been defined that references the variable. When the value of the dynamic repository variable changes, cache is not purged because no logical column exists within a business model that uses the variable.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

SO ... your OOTB OBIA dynamic variables are being refreshed on the hour (or at least the one you showed) ... if you can have them sit longer (like a day) then set their init blocks to a longer refresh rate ... especially for ANY that are referenced in logical columns (these are the ones perhaps causing you the issue)

Thomas, Thanks for your inputs. If the cache purges based on the dynamic repository variables then all the cache files(.TBL)has to be purged based the variable frequency. But all the cache files are purging in B/W 3 to 5 PM everyday. And we are using OBIA-11.1.1.9.2 out of the box RPD. Thanks R
