As said on another idea asking for this, even without the touch-screen use case and justification, IMHO the Help-About screen should show version number in clear text. IMHO, it is an industry standard.

Agree with @Marcelo Finkielsztein. Users are questioning this, why should we hover to see the version,

Ditto to @Marcelo Finkielsztein, also having version number is vital, If Month and year of the Patch needed, it should be displayed like V 6.5 ( Jul 2022), it make sense which patch set you are in. UpVoted

  • We do not use version numbers anymore to represent OAC updates and the transition will be completed in the September update. As such, the 'hidden' tooltip will also be removed as there are no longer numbered releases to OAC.

There is a valid need to know the update level of the service, as such the September update will include an enhancement to the About which will show the What's New content to indicate the update level of that specific instance as well as the content that was added in the update.

We assume that this will serve the need of easily knowing the update level of the service. As such, I'm marking this one as Planned and will mark it as delivered once the September rollout starts.

@Gabby Rubin-Oracle Will the same pay for OAS , where there is just one yearly release (now OAS 6.4) ? How this will look like for OAS - can you, pls, specify ? Thanks.

  • TBD for OAS 2023, but the plan is that it will work in the same way. We do have a requirement to maintain a number for OAS due to some internal Oracle-wide systems, but even this year we referred to OAS as OAS 2022.

Nice thing about months is that now if someone will tell you that something is scheduled for the November update, you do not need to ask when is it ;)
