DVD connection to BICS Analysis as a data source

Content

Wondering if DVD or VA would allow connecting to a BICS instance catalog so we could use the BICS analysis as a data source for visualization in VA or DVD.

I could use the "Oracle Applications" connection type to establish a connection with an premise OBIEE/OBIA setup (both 11g and 12c ) and source the analysis. However, when attempting to access a BICS Analysis using the same connection "oracle Applications", I get an error message stating

Failed to save the connection.

Invalid connect string / url to external source.

Would appreciate any inputs on the above.

    Hi,

Currently BICS does not allow this type of connection.

Oracle Analytics Cloud (coming these weeks) should allow it.

    Regards,

    Hi,

Is DVD connection to BICS coming soon or the connectivity will be only to Oracle Analytics Cloud?

    Please advise.

We have created a data model in BICS and want the users to leverage this along with the security using DVD.

    Thanks,

    Sujay

I don't think you can leverage data models as in RPD subject areas but you can connect to an analysis that uses those subject areas. At least, based on my testing as of May 15, 2017. However, you can leverage your subject areas in Oracle Data Visualization Cloud..

    Hope this help

DVD should be able to connect to BICS or the new Oracle Analytics Cloud- OAC.. I tested it and it works. What's the string or URL you're using?

    Hi,

The connection should be fine for OAC , but not possible to BICS. If you are using OAC , then the mentioned format should be fine to connect to it.

    Thanks

    Eswar.

  • Sorry - not possible to use this connection to BICS.  It can be used against Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC).

Reason: BICS does not allow incoming SOAP connections using the BI SOAP-based web services.

    Hi Anas,

I'm trying to connect to BICS in DVD (v3), but can't seem to get the URL right:

    'Failed to save the connection.

Invalid connect string / url to external source.'

You stated that it is possible to make the connection to BICS; could you tell me what the URL should look like?

Copying the URL directly from BICS Catalogus doesn't do the trick, neither taking off the end part after '.../analytics'

    Help is appreciated.

    Hi,

Can you please send the URL ?

And, the connection should work well, URL should be like,

    http://hostname/port.no/analytics

    Example:

    http://10.81.62.129/:9704/analytics

    Thanks

    Eswar.
