DV snapshot automation in OAS

Hello,

Moving from OBIEE 12.2.1.4 to OAS7.0 used to setup cron to run the bar file backups and it is easier to automate. Now as DV snapshot is the far most recommendation from oracle for a good recovery in OAS instance/catalogs, automation option is a must. No one wanted to login to console everyday and click to run the snapshots, please work on this or fix the exportarchive.sh to be a best option for recovery scenario , Thanks!

please implement an EASY automation; without requiring API programming or skills that a usual OAC administrator would have.

Hi Marcelo,

we are still (on OAS 7.0) using exportarchive.sh for automate on regular basis BAR creation and it is working. What problem with exportarchive.sh do you have on your environment ? It is just because Oracle recommends using creation of BAR file through DV Console (in UI) ? Truth is, that this should be also available within REST API (which is the case for OAC), but since there is no REST API available in OAS, we need to hope, that this "gap" between OAC and OAS will be soon filled....

in oac i do not know if i can open a command window and run a .sh script.

i connect to a "website" via a browser.

i know there is a way to click on a link and visit a webpage that simulates a linux cmd window but i have never explored that in deep since anyway would not be really automatic and i wanted to be able to schedule it. is there a way to "cron" inside that linux replica? honestly don't know.

i also know there os a way to API to oac and extract a bar but i do not have had the time/resources yet to explore how to program this API.

i was really hoping oracle would produce a solution to this need without any if the above complexities.

something like OAC / menu / console / snapshots / schedule /// enter schedule agenda and file destination.

As for file destination, that might be FTP credentials to a site where oac can transfer the bar or some form of shared folder; BTW at the moment i dont know either how to create a shared folder in my network, that oracle could access.

( Sorry; We are usually very busy and each option opens new territories that i need to explore, instead of a "SOLUTION")

@Marcelo Finkielsztein Your idea is named "DV snapshot automation in OAS", so this presumes, that you request this functionality for OAS. But apparently you are speaking about OAC.....

You can automate all the stuff in OAC using REST API I guess.

this is actually not my idea originally, it comes from another user. yes; i use OAC only. i wanted to get oracle's attention bu adding a comment.

a while ago i already had asked for this functionality and had created an idea of my own, but without success.

regarding API, oracles claims it is possible.

i started trying with API; after a humble attempt i had to abandon due to increasing complications. I also opened a ticket with oracle support but they could not provide a solution either. ended up escalating to other orcl teams and having long zoom conversations with them without success.

if you have seen an oac API working please let me know. i wonder if anyone jas ever been able to take a snapshot via API.

i will appreciate an example "end to end" showing it can be done.

Understand.... We are on OAS with no immediate/mid-term plans to "move" to OAC, so I don't have experience with REST API available in OAC (but still hope, that REST API will be also available in OAS).

ah, then i will need to keep trying and/or waiting.

when i tried to obtain a way to create a scripted API routine to create a bar without exposing passwords in plain text (!!) i failed.

we are in OAS 7.6.0.0(2024) version - yes the Snapshot need automation, though I have cron running for export bar, snapshot is the best in OAS.
