In OAS, exportarchive or snapshot are unable to export DV reports which has flat files as datasets.

In OAS, if you upload any flat files as dataset and created DV workbook, then these flat files with data are not part of snapshot/exportarchieve backups. This is really a show stopper for the clients who wanted to clone the OAS production environment into non-prod environments. Due to this reason, users have to upload again respective flat files into non-prod environments just similar to how they did in OAS PROD environment for that respective DV workbooks.
So it would be really a game changer, if exportarchive.sh/snapshot could export all the objects(reports/dashboards) including data for the flat files uploaded as part of DV datasets.
Please suggest.

There is a separate utility for migrating file-based data. See: https://blogs.oracle.com/analytics/post/migrating-file-based-data-from-oracle-analytics-server-to-oracle-analytics-cloud

Perfect Alan Lee, this is what I'm expecting. In fact, I raised Oracle SR for this issue, but they confirmed that it is not possible and ask me to re-upload all excel files manually in the target environment. It seems Oracle support doesn't know this workaround.
Anyway, Thank you very much for your help....much appreciated!!

@Alan Lee - Oracle-Oracle Alan, I don’t think , that what is described in blog, you are referring, can be used to migrate file-based data sets between 2 OAS (on- prem) environments or am I wrong ? Could you pls specify ? Btw I have created similar idea for the same in 2021: https://community.oracle.com/products/oracleanalytics/discussion/10337/oas-inclusion-of-file-based-data-into-snapshot#latest, so far without being noticed by Product Mgmt.

@Michal Zima migrate_datafiles.py has both export and import options and can be used with OAS. See also following blog: https://blogs.oracle.com/analytics/post/disaster-recovery-solution-for-oracle-analytics-server-on-oracle-cloud-marketplace-using-snapshot-replication. Search for the section "Migrating File-based Data" in the blog.

@Alan Lee - Oracle-Oracle Thanks Alan, good to know, we will start to use it.Would be fine to put the reference to this python script to standard OAS documentation (Administration Guide).

I just realised that the folder 'ORACLE_HOME/bi/modules/oracle.bi.publicscripts' which contains python scripts is not exists in OAS 7.0(2023) version, but this folder exists in OAS 5.9 version(not sure about OAS 6.4 as I didn't installed it).
So it means we can't do this export/import datasets activity from OAS 7.0 onwards??
As workaround, can I copy this entire folder of 'oracle.bi.publicscripts' from OAS 5.9 and put it in OAS 7.0 and run the import command?
Please suggest. Thanks.

@Alan Lee - Oracle-Oracle Hi Alan,
it looks like, that your recommendation (usage of script migrate_datafiles.py for both export and import of file-based data between 2 OAS instances) is no longer valid - since:
1) In blog: https://blogs.oracle.com/analytics/post/disaster-recovery-solution-for-oracle-analytics-server-on-oracle-cloud-marketplace-using-snapshot-replication, section "Migrating File-based Data" is no longer available (it seems, that is has been removed after this discussion).
2) As pointed by @AnandBadugu , scripts in folder ORACLE_HOME/bi/modules/oracle.bi.publicscripts (including migrate_datafiles.py script) are not available in latest OAS release (7.0) - folder ORACLE_HOME/bi/modules/oracle.bi.publicscripts is simple not available at all.
Could you, pls comment on those latest findings ?
Thanks and regards
Michal
