Description

On day one OAC looks very clean but after several months and with many users, there may be hundreds or thousands of data sets.  It's slow and painful to one by one edit the sharing and access of each data set to ensure only the right people have access.  Ideally:

1) Folders can be created and datasets can be moved into folders.  Maybe do the same as projects where there is also a "My datasets" for data you don't want to share.

2) The sharing and access rules that apply to the folders automatically apply to all datasets inside those folders

Use Case and Business Need

Improved security and user productivity where users can more quickly and reliably control access to datasets.  Helps eliminate human error in making potentially hundreds of manual changes.

Generally structuring objects into BI catalog folders should be a "golden rule" for majority of DV objects (not only for DV projects as it is now, but also for data sets, data flows, possibly Connection objects is not that critical). This would definitelly help to better organize/maintain DV object and also security aspect (as mentioned by idea author) is important.

This would be great. When you have hundreds of users, the content can quickly overwhelm and become extremely disorganized. Finding things only by search feature or sorting isn't as intuitive as organizing into folder structures. As mentioned, folders would allow an quick and easy way of applying permissions similar to Answers. It ensures consistency in security of objects within a single folder as well and reduces maintenance overhead. Agree this should be for all DV data-related objects: data sets, data flows, models, etc.

We have a need for this feature as well. This would be a great addition so the users can keep track of their datasets in a logical structure rather than in a single column format.

I like this idea. We have 1000's of datasets and need a better way to organize the Data Sets

This is a great idea! Imagine having few hundred datasets and without a way of organizing them.

This is a widespread question from our end users. Getting this feature would make the datasets list much more usable!
