Process for upgrade
According to Guide https://docs.oracle.com/en/middleware/bi/analytics-server/migrate-upgrade-oas/upgrade-process.html the following steps were planed:

  1. Apply latest patches to Oracle Analytics Server 7.0.0 (OAS 2023) installation
  2. Shut down OAS services (leave database instance running)
  3. Create Backup directory: mkdir D:\analytics\config\backup
  4. Backup contents of $ORACLE_HOME as Zip-archive to D:\analytics\config\backup
  5. Backup contents of $DOMAIN_HOME as Zip-archive to D:\analytics\config\backup
  6. Move existing $ORACLE_HOME directory to temporary directory: move D:\analytics\product\oas_home D:\analytics\product\oas_home.2023
  7. Create new empty $ORACLE_HOME directory: mkdir D:\analytics\product\oas_home
  8. Install Oracle Fusion Middleware 12.2.1.4.0 to D:\analytics\product\oas_home into new empty $ORACLE_HOME directory
  9. Install Oracle Analytics Server 7.6.0 (OAS 2024) to D:\analytics\product\oas_home into new empty $ORACLE_HOME directory
  10. Apply OPatch/WLS/FMW/OAS April 2024 patches (including patch 35515979) into new empty $ORACLE_HOME directory
  11. Perform Readiness check with Oracle Fusion Middleware Upgrade Assistant: %ORACLE_HOME%\oracle_common\upgrade\bin\ua.bat -readiness
  12. Back up mapViewerConfig.xml: copy D:\analytics\config\domains\oas_domain\config\fmwconfig\mapviewer\conf\mapViewerConfig.xml D:\analytics\config\backup
  13. Upgrade All Schemas Used By a Domain with Oracle Fusion Middleware Upgrade Assistant: %ORACLE_HOME%\oracle_common\upgrade\bin\ua.bat
  14. Reconfigure the existing domain with the Reconfiguration Wizard: ORACLE_HOME\oracle_common\commom\bin\reconfig.cmd
  15. Upgrade All Configurations Used By a Domain with Oracle Fusion Middleware Upgrade Assistant: %ORACLE_HOME%\oracle_common\upgrade\bin\ua.bat
  16. Restore mapViewerConfig.xml: copy D:\analytics\config\backup\ mapViewerConfig.xml D:\analytics\config\domains\oas_domain\config\fmwconfig\mapviewer\conf\ /y
  17. Restart all OAS services
  18. Verify upgrade and delete old %ORACLE_HOME%: erase \analytics\product\oas_home.2023 /f /s /q

Upgrade Notes

Alternatives tried (without success):

  • Trying an upgrade from Oracle Analytics Server 7.0.0 with January 2024 patches
  • Trying an upgrade from Oracle Analytics Server 7.0.0 with April 2024 patches
  • Trying an upgrade to Oracle Analytics Server 7.6.0 without any patches
  • Trying an upgrade to Oracle Analytics Server 7.6.0 with April 2024 patches
  • Trying an upgrade to Oracle Analytics Server 7.6.0 with April 2024 patches (including patch 35515979)

Question

Is there a required step missing? Or a specific patch? Or is this just a bug?

    Hi Sascha,

I suggest you pursue the SR. Oracle Support is a service you pay for with your licenses. This is is a public and free community forum.

Especially errors like yours aren't really things that the community can resolve.

Unless someone has your precise setup with an all-Windows config you'll probably not get anyone who can reproduce it and even then it's 50/50 because it's an upgrade and not a fresh install.

I'll ask the question that's probably burning on the fingers of several forum users but not typed out: What forces you to stay on-premises?

The issue happening in OAS 2023 to OAS 2024 upgrade ..

and the patch 35515979 suggested, is saying BIAPPS UPGRADE OAS6.4 WITH OCT CPU TO OAS7 FAILS AT RECONFIG…

as per I have found OAS 2023 is 7.0 right & OAS 2024 is 7.6?

is it may be same old patch necessary here also, or a typo in naming the patch?

And when I tried to apply this patch, it's superset patch 36946553 is already a necessary patch indicated in FMW quarterly patches list..

This is an old thread with an accepted answer.
Patch 36946553 was from OCT 2024, and yes, it has been superseded by the JAN 2025 patches

Also, as FYI OAS 2025 was released last week.

    @SteveF-Oracle

we are upgrading now from OAS 2023 , shall I directly jump to OAS 2025 ?

why I am asking suggestion is, dealing with BIP/OAS is a difficult one, so just our target is to save as much time possible on OAS maintenance..

We have lot of environments running this setup.

So what will you suggest shall I proceed upgrading to 2024, or is it best to upgrade in to the just released 2025 version ?
