Hi Team,

We are planning to use latest Semantic Modeler Tool (Web Based Data Modeling) released in Oracle Analytics Cloud May 2023 in place of RPD (Model Admin Client Tool).

Although Semantic modeler has tight integration with Git with multi user development experience it does not support jdbc data source.

Could the jdbc Data Source Support can be enabled as soon as possible in Semantic Modeler.

Has this been incorporated in Semantic Modeler. Could see similar enhancement in OACS Sep2024 version.

  • JDBC support is on the roadmap.

The next OAS update will be in early 2025.

    Kindly verify -

    https://docs.oracle.com/en/cloud/paas/analytics-cloud/acswn/

Semantic Modeler supports generic JDBC connections

Build generic JDBC connections to access and model data sources with Semantic Modeler. See Data Sources Supported for Semantic Models.

Yes. It is available in OAC Sept 2024 with Remote Data Connectivity.

    Thanks for the confirmation.

There are two options, Could you please convert which option we need to choose while converting the RPD in SM.

    1. We are creating jdbc connection directly in RPD

Connection pool - Call interface - JDBC (Direct Driver) and connection string has all details of connection and using username and password. Miscellaneous tab has the Javads Server URL and Driver Class.

Can we convert the same RPD in Semantic Modeler

    2. we need to create first connection in DV-Data - Connection via RDG and use that connection name in

"Use Data Connection" in connection pool and then convert the RPD into SM.

Is this question specific to OAS? The suggestion earlier is for OAC.

Looking for this option in OACS. But to use the connection in JDBC in Semantic Modeler, first we need to create the connection in Data-Connection using RDG and then use that name in RPD connection pool and convert the RPD in form of Semantic Modeler. Hope my understandingn is correct.

  • Right — with Semantic Modeler — you have to create connections in OAC (similar to datasets) and mark the System option. Then you can use this in the Semantic Modeler and update the connection pools, etc.
