Best practice: go in the other direction - from BO to OBI

But with any tech change the rule is the same: don't just do a dumb recreation of content from A in B.  Try to grasp tech B and implement based on what's best there.

Start with requirements; IGNORE tool functionality.

Whomever made the choice to switch tool-sets has to understand the functionality changes will impact organizational change management -- your ONLY controllable input is to implement the same business value (or more/better value) in the new tool -- pursuing function-for-function between BI tools is a sure way to fail.

My 2 pennies worth - I'm not quite sure what business value there would be in migrating/copying like for like reports etc. You'd need to change software to add business value but that's just my 2 pennies worth and +1 to @Christian Berg with regards to moving from OBIEE to BO.

I think you misunderstand me ... I would never advocate a "migrating/copying like for like reports" approach.  I also agree OBIEE is a much better tool that BO (at present) -- but OP probably has had this change imposed on them.  So given that imposition - the best course of action is to go back to requirements and build in new tool (not comparing functionality of old versus new) and incorporate Mr. Berg's advice of implementing according to the strengths of the new tool.

I totally agreed with your OP @Thomas Dodds. I'm obviously a bit biased with my questioning of migrating from BO to OBIEE but as you said about OP, these decisions are sometimes imposed on developmen teams and it is best to find out the differentiators and make use of those as opposed to a straightforward copy from previous implementation.

Bingo. Every tool has its strengths and the best way is always understanding the tool and then implement the requirements. 1:1 migrations are basically doomed to fail from the start. What's the point of doing the exact same thing in a new tool as you did in the old?

Ego of the decision maker ... sadly.  I've seen it too many times.

    Experts,

Any pointers to the above will go a long way as I'm also having same requirement to migrate from OBIEE to SAP BO.

I know each tool has its advantages as well as plus points.

Are there any blogs for migration of

    a. Semantic layer (Universe,etc)

    b. Reporting layer (Webi, Deski,etc)

    c. Dashboards ?

Any leads/pointers would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There is no "migration". It's two different tools with two different approaches. Re-develop.

Start with requirements; IGNORE tool functionality. -- you are starting over.
