I would like the ability to add alternative hierarchies for Chart of Account segments. My company uses an alternative account hierarchy for management reporting, as the general ledger is configured using a statutory account hierarchy to support statutory account reporting.

The current method I have used to add an alternative hierarchy to FDI requires 2 steps, the first to extend an entity - to add the additional hierarchy values from the alt hierarchy table. The second step - add hierarchy - is used to define the levels of the hierarchy. However, because the hierarchy I am adding is a ragged hierarchy, I am unable to check the "Ragged" box in the second screen in the wizard. The result of this is that when drilling down on the hierarchy, it exposes blank levels which if you continue to drill down causes the report to fall over and "no data" is displayed - resulting in poor user experience.

Please can you enable "Ragged" and "Skipped" level check boxes for custom hierarchies - as per the screen in the "Add Dimension" step.

n.b. I cannot use "Add Dimension" step as there is no fact to join to in the OOTB subject areas.

    Hi Rob,

FDI support alternate hierarchies. In the below example. Customer has multiple trees in Fusion and they are all exposed in FDI.

Business Users can use the Tree filter Column to select a particular tree.

Below is an example of Natural Account Tree showing all the various hierarchies in FDI.

Kindly let me know if the above satisfies your requirements.

    Hi Krishna,

This would work if the hierarchy we were attempting to use was available through ERP via Hierarchy Tree. However the hierarchy we are using comes from a different source in this instance - from EPM as it's a planning hierarchy.

The hierarchy table is received as Dimension/Meta Data from EPM as their Account table, which we're then flattening from a parent child to a level based hierarchy in ADW. We are then using the new flattened table in our customisation.

Image below of what we want to achieve - the ability to drill down through the hierarchy to see lower levels - the below illustrates how blank rows are exposed due to no "Ragged" option.

  • Thank you for the details.

  • Hi Rob, while creating the hierarchy table from the EPM, you can look to flatten the Hierarchy and repeat is so that it become a normal Hierarchy. This allows you to avoid this scenario.

I can do a zoom call with you to discuss more on this. Let me know your thoughts.
