Hi Team,

Evaluate function is not working on the analysis which are created on dataset as subject area. This is a important feature and need to be available for the analysis based on the dataset. In my assignment i am only using dataset to model the data mart data and there are sometime where it requires to apply the db functions using evaluate which is not available as of now in OAS 6.4/2023.

Thanks!

    Hi Team,

Any update on this ? Feature not enabled in OAS 2024 as well. Any plan for the future releases ?

@Kartik Mali-Oracle How did you come to conclusion, that :

" EVALUATE function is not working on the analysis which are created on dataset as subject area" ?

Just to make clear - do you mean in analysis, which is created out of data set (as opposed to creation out of Subject Area) ? If this is what you meant, than EVALUATE function used in analysis (calculated column) is working in our OAS environments (we are currently on OAS 2025, but this was working also in OAS 2024, OAS 2023…) like a charm. Have you enabled usage of EVALUATE functions in UI (System Setting Console - Evaluate Support Level = 2) ? What error message are you getting when using calculation with EVALUATE function ?

    Hi @Michal Zima ,

I created two analyses—one based on RPD subject areas and another on a DV dataset as the subject area. In both analyses, I created a date field and, for testing the EVALUATE function, attempted to typecast the date field to a character.

This worked as expected in the RPD subject area analysis. However, in the DV dataset–based analysis, I encountered the following error:

Cannot function ship the following expression: EVALUATE. (HY000)

During installation, the EVALUATE support level was configured, and it is widely used. However, this error appears to be specific to DV datasets as Subject Area.

    OAS version: v2023/2024

    Thank you for your help!

    Hi @Kartik Mali-Oracle ,

as I already written EVALUATE function used in analysis (calculated column) , which is created based on DV data set, is working in our OAS environments perfectly. I don't understand what you mean by "DV datasets as Subject Area" ? I am not familiar with wording - do you mean ordinary data set created in DV (based on tables in database or Excel/CSV files) ? I recommend to look at BI Server component logs to look for more detail , connected with the error message you are getting.

    Hi @Michal Zima

"DV Dataset as Subject Area" means analysis created or based on the DV Dataset.
Evaluate is working fine for us if we create analysis on RPD subject areas which means the BI Servers settings are in place. Just the issue that the same functionality is not working when using analysis created on dv dataset.

Ok, in this case I recommend opening SR with Oracle support and try to solve it with them. In normal circumstances this should work, so apparently this issue is connected with your OAS environment (and possibly configuration, database against which your data set is created). It should not be an Idea for product improvement. And as I wrote, try to look at logs of BI Server component («Domain Home»/servers/obis1/logs/) to dig for some more detail connected with error message, you are getting .
