Preserve Hierarchy Expansion State When Navigating Across Dimensions in Oracle Analytics Cloud
In Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC), we have identified inconsistent behavior when working with visualizations that use multiple hierarchical dimensions simultaneously (such as tables or pivot views).
Current Behavior
When opening a Workbook, some hierarchies may already be expanded. However, when expanding a member from another hierarchical dimension within the same visualization:
- The expansion state of previously expanded hierarchies is not preserved;
- Expanded levels are automatically collapsed in the newly displayed sublevels.
The attached evidence illustrates this behavior from a structural perspective only. All data has been intentionally masked to ensure information security.
Expected Behavior
Users expect that:
- When expanding members in one hierarchical dimension;
- Hierarchies that were already expanded in other dimensions remain expanded, preserving the analytical context.
This behavior was previously available in Hyperion Web Analysis, which was used to access Workbooks before the migration, and was widely adopted by users.
Benefits of This Enhancement
Preserving the hierarchy expansion state across dimensions would:
- Significantly improve user experience;
- Reduce manual rework during navigation;
- Support smoother report migration to OAC;
- Ensure greater consistency when analyzing data with multiple hierarchical dimensions.
