Hello,

Long time user - many time poster.

Doing phase precheck for 7.6 & 8.2 SPB from OAS 6.4 // 35608828;OAS STACK PATCH BUNDLE 6.4.0.0.230715 (Patch 35607281)

[03/20/2026 10:01:28] - [ERROR] - [preReqCheck] : [239]- OBI component e:\Oracle\Middleware\Oracle_Home\inventory\Components\oracle.bi.publisher\12.2.7.6.1 is not present in environment

We don't normally use BI Publisher - but I've gone in, run it - it's launched, it works - it's there - I know it is. I can't find any patching information to get it up to date to get this server patched further.

Have you run into this?

  • Hi,

I am trying to interpret your post.

You have an environment that you have upgraded from 6.4 >> 7.6 >> 8.2, but now you are trying to apply an older 6.4 bundle patch (Oracle Analytics Server(OAS) 6.4.0.0.0 SPB Patch 35607281)

    I got a little lost in the 7.6 and 8.2 with a 6.4 patch.

    Can you clarify, please?

I think I was mistakenly under the impression that I could "upgrade" via SPB.

I am/was/are trying to go from  6.4.0.0.230715 to whatever is the latest, with the least amount of pain.

And so far, I'm finding more pain than gain.

  • Thanks for clarifying.

Correct, a stack patch bundle is for patching.

If you are referring to Upgrading, then you follow the Upgrade Guide documentation (i.e. install the new binaries and run the upgrade assistants.)

You can go directly from OAS 2022 (6.4) to OAS 2025 (8.2), you do not need to upgrade to 7.6 in between.
We also now have available OAS 2026, but hold off upgrading in-place to that right now as there are a few issues to work out on the in-place upgrade. Out-of-Place migration is fine. We are working on those issues and will have an update as soon as practical.

Where Can I Find Older Oracle Analytics Server (OAS) Documentation? (KB131312)

  • Applying the stack patch bundle is one command. I don't count it as a "painful" task as it just work (no DB upgrades or various commands etc.).

As Steve said, just do the normal upgrade and then when done apply the latest SPB and call it a day.

You may want to stop at 8.2.0 (2025) for now, another user here reported issues with an in-place upgrade to OAS 2026, which is anyway just a week or 2 old.
